Tribute & Message From The Family

Marie Margaret Crouse, age 88, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Monday, December 2 at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Medford on January 14, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret A. (Hickey) Ryan.

Marie was raised in Medford and had attended St. Joseph School in Medford and Medford High School, as well as attending secretarial school. She had worked many years in accounting for a number of town entities, including the town hall and the Wakefield Public Schools until her retirement in the 80's from the Superintendent's Office. Alongside her husband, the late Harold F. Crouse, Marie was very involved in the formative years of The Wakefield Citizen Scholarship Foundation; as well as numerous other town activities. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was an avid reader. She also was an accomplished photographer and even had pictures published. She was honored in town for her photography at the Civic Center through Friends of Lake Quannapowitt. Marie will be remembered as a selfless woman, who even in the face of adversity and illness remained stoic and generous.

She was the wife of the late Harold F. Crouse, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage. She was the mother of Robert Crouse of Wakefield, John Crouse and his wife Stephanie of Glastonbury, CT and Elizabeth Crouse of Wakefield. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew, Joseph, Lauren, Connor, Stephen, Ryan, Victoria, Tomas, and Jennifer; as well as one great grandchild, Aiden. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Ryan and his wife Diane.
