Wakefield, Massachusetts | Age 76

Darryl E. Fahey, age 76, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Saturday, July 21 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Boston on September 28, 1941 she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Catherine (Donovan) Dempsey.

Mrs. Fahey was raised in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School, Class of 1959, and then went on to receive her Associates Degree in Business from Bentley College. For more than ten years, Darryl had both worked and volunteered within the Wakefield Public School system from working in the office to substitute teaching. Retiring only a couple of years ago due to health, Darryl enjoyed working as a receptionist at the Harvard Faculty Club in Cambridge for more than 20 years. Mrs. Fahey had lived most of her life in Wakefield and was involved in the Painting Club at the First Parish Congregational Church, and many years ago was a Brownie Troop Leader and taught CCD. Darryl was a terrific cook and entertainer, an avid and generous knitter, a talented painter, a doting and active grandmother, and enjoyed times and laughs with her sister and friends. Spending summers for the past 45 years at Long Beach, Rockport, Darryl enjoyed her neighbors and friends and welcoming all to have fun on the beach and share a meal. Above all, she was a mother of four and cherished the time spent with her family.

She was the loving mother of Donna Fahey Nixon and her husband Drew of Switzerland, James F. Fahey, Jr. and wife Maria of Boxford, John C. Fahey and girlfriend Carla Desiderio of Wakefield, and Robert L. Fahey and wife Kerri of Reading. She was the adoring grandmother of Ashley, Megan, Drew Jr., Piper, James III, Sean, Colin, Grace, Dylan, Brooke, Abigail, Libby, and Jack. She was the sister of Clinton R. Dempsey and his late wife Alma of Portsmouth, RI and Diane Jones and her husband Richard of Wenham. Darryl is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment will be private.
