Obituary for Dorothy W. Marshall

February 27, 1923 - January 19, 2022
Lynnfield, Massachusetts | Age 98

Dorothy W. Marshall, age 98, passed on January 19th surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born and raised in West Orange, New Jersey to Dorothy and Louis Edwin Waldeck, the second of four children. She graduated from West Orange High School. Cherished childhood memories for Dorothy were sketching, playing violin in the school orchestra, visiting her aunt's beach house, and watching her father sketch the family.

Dorothy received technical training at the Academy of Aeronautics. She was employed as a draftswoman for Chance Vought Aircraft in Stratford, Connecticut. It was here that she met and married Edmund V. Marshall. They were married for 54 years, until Edmund's death in 2003. She was a homemaker and proud mother of 5 children: David, John, Gregory, Peter, and Jeannette.

Dorothy is succeeded by son David Marshall, his wife Maureen Hughes, and his stepchildren Katie, Joshua, and Max Budukiewicz; son Gregory Marshall, his wife Helene, daughter Natalie Cordero and her husband Ryan; son Peter Marshall and his son Spenser; and daughter Jeannette Marsh, her husband Christopher, son Thaddeus Denton, and stepchildren Ashlyn and Evan Marsh.

Her many residences included Dallas, Texas; West Hartford, Connecticut; and Tequesta, Florida. Her favorite was her East Greenwich home overlooking a pond surrounded by woods. She lived there for over 30 years. In East Greenwich she sang in the choir and was a book group member and an avid player in her Scrabble group. She had been a member of the Sunrise Senior Living Community in Lynnfield since January of 2016.

Throughout her life Dorothy was to receive various awards for her charitable work. She drove an ambulance in Florida, worked as an emergency room aide and read for broadcasts for the blind in Rhode Island. Later she modified clothing for wounded veterans. Dot was happiest when she had something to do, which created a life filled with hobbies: gardening, pastels, knitting, sewing, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and card games. She will be missed.

Services were private.
