Herbert H. McLaughlin, age 85, a longtime resident of Lynnfield died Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Born in Somerville on November 1, 1936 he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Coughlin) McLaughlin.

Mr. McLaughlin was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1955. He was also a graduate of Northeastern University School of Criminal Justice. Mr. McLaughlin had served in the United States Army during Korea. He had first been retired as a capital police officer for the state house and then later retired from the Portsmouth Naval Base and Watertown Arsenal. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 10339 of Framingham and the Retired Men's Club of Arlington. Mr. McLaughlin was an avid Boston sports fan and also loved fishing.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Barry). He was the loving father of Clifford H. McLaughlin and his wife Diane of Methuen, William J. McLaughlin and his wife Robin of Norton, and Linda Inman of Lynnfield. He was the brother of Mary Delaney of Framingham. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A private burial took place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
