Obituary

John Perry Gallagher, 83, of Stoneham, died on Wednesday, May 19 at his home surrounded by those he held dear.

Born in East Boston on August 10, 1937, he was the son of William and Katherine (Rogers) Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher left high school in his junior year to care for his ill grandfather. He received his GED while serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was discharged on March 28, 1960. He worked for the MBTA for many years before retiring in 1995 due to health reasons. He was an avid Red Sox fan, loved music, especially Bing Crosby. His love for Christmas was unparalleled and those traditions have been passed on to his family who he loved spending any occasion with.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn F. (Griffin) Gallagher and is survived by his children: Evelyn Rooney of Woburn, Margaret Gallagher of Stoneham, Theresa Gallagher of Stoneham, John Gallagher and his husband Adam of San Diego, CA, Mitchell Gallagher and his wife Kelly of Hanson, Katherine Gallagher and her husband Paul of Stoneham and Kevin Gallagher of Stoneham. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jacqueline, Meaghan, Ryan, Dylan, Reed, Alyx, Collin and Logan, plus his brand-new great grandson Reece – who he was anxiously awaiting. He is also survived by brother James Gallagher of Wakefield and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers: William and Joseph and his sisters: Barbara, Margaret (Chickie), Madeline (Bunny) and Katherine (Greeno).

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Sunday from 1-4pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St, Stoneham on Monday at 10am. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham.
