Minh Van Nguyen of Stoneham passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday April 14, 2021. He was 80 years of age.

He was born in Quang Ngai, Vietnam and was the son of the late Diep Van Nguyen and Thuan Thi Nguyen. His sister Kim Huong Nguyen currently lives in Vietnam.

He is survived by the love of his life, Mai Tuyet L. Nguyen, his wife of 54 years, his daughters Mai Trang Nguyen and her husband Nghia Nguyen, Mai Tram Nguyen, Mai Thy Nguyen and her husband Minh Nguyen; his sons Huy Nguyen, Hien Nguyen and his wife Mackenzie Vo. He is the loving grandfather to Sydney Nguyen, Kayla Nguyen, Emily Nguyen, Hayden Nguyen, and Harlen Nguyen

Minh left his hometown of Quang Ngai, Vietnam at the age of 14 and moved to Saigon, Vietnam to attend high school. Losing his father to illness when he was an infant, Minh grew up with his mother and became independent and self reliant at an early age. He received a law degree from the University of Saigon in 1968. He subsequently joined the Army Police Force as a Chief Police Major.

He immigrated to United States in 1984 with his three older children to begin a new life and eventually resettled in Stoneham, Massachusetts. His wife and his two younger children reunited with him six years later. Because it is difficult to practice law in the U.S. as a foreign-trained lawyer, he pursued a different career to support his three teenager children through high school and college. He received an associate degree in heating and air conditioning from Bunker Hill Community College and worked in this field until his retirement in 2008. He was an active member of the Vietnamese Buddhist Temple and spent most of his spare time volunteering within the community.

Minh was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was unconditionally devoted to his family. He loved family gatherings, reminiscing over the good ole' days and his childhood in Quang Ngai, Vietnam. His perseverance and triumph over adversity inspired those who knew him. Despite various life challenges, Minh maintained his optimism and is always a source of inspiration for his children and grandchildren. He left an enormous footprint in the lives of those who love him. His family holds him close within them in their mind and their spirit.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Friday April 16th at The McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main Street Stoneham from 4-7pm followed by a Cremation Celebrating Minh's Eternal Life in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematory 185 Lake Street PEABODY, MA 01960 on Saturday April 17th at 10:30 am
