Obituary

Nathalie Ann Lusas, age 99, a long-term resident of Stoneham and more recently of Rockport and Melrose, died Friday, February 25 at the Oceanside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockport.

Born May 30, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret (Stevens) LeDuc. Fred LeDuc was the owner of The Gloucester Fish Market in Stoneham Square for over 50 years.

Mrs. Lusas was born and raised in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1940. Shortly thereafter she went to work for the Navy Department during World War II and then after her marriage to Joseph at St. Patrick's she moved to Naugatuck, Connecticut. She came home to Stoneham in 1962 to assume the role of Assistant Town Clerk and ultimately retired as the Town Clerk after 21 years of service in 1983. Mrs. Lusas had a passion for both cooking and gardening, passions which she happily passed on to her children. She also enjoyed a bit of travel with noteworthy trips to Europe and San Diego. Great summer vacations were spent with her family for many years in Little Neck, Ipswich.

Mrs. Lusas was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Lusas. She was the loving mother of Martha Perry and her husband Joseph of Rockport, Neil Lusas and his wife Jacquelyn of Melrose, Ellen Petto and her husband David of Salem, Elizabeth Lusas and her partner Bryan Barksdale of Tennessee, and the late Maryann Sargent and her husband Todd, formerly of Danvers. She was the cherished "Nana" of Jennifer Perry and partner Pete of Rockport and Joseph W. Perry of Rockport, Nathan Lusas and his wife Emily of Melrose, Kurt Lusas and his wife Amanda of Webster, NH, Laurie Hewitt and her husband Scott of Melrose, Amy Lusas of Melrose, Cody Lusas of Cambridge, Eric Sargent and his wife Sarah of Hamilton, Heather Phelan and her husband Corey of Essex, Michael Petto and his wife Melissa of Rowley, Marc Petto and his wife Leanne of North Reading, Marie Petto of Haverhill, and Karyn Mountain of Rockport. She was also the adoring "Nana-Nana" to 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Lusas was predeceased by her sister Barbara Hurley, formerly of Stoneham. The family would also like to express our thanks to her nephew Larry Hurley and his wife Gayle of Stoneham and niece Barbara Hurley of Florida for their great kindness to "Aunt Nanny" for many years.

Her funeral services will be private. Interment to take place at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham.
