Richard A. Marshall, age 71, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died Saturday, November 3 after a long battle with illness.

Born in Malden on May 5, 1947 he was the son of the late Donald B. and Hazel L. (Boone) Marshall.

Mr. Marshall was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1966. While in high school, he was an outstanding basketball player and was known as "Rick the Shot Marshall," and the team achieved their first championship during his junior year. Upon graduation, Mr. Marshall was drafted into the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era. He later went on to Mass Bay and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business and opened and operated Liberty Card Shop in Melrose for more than 20 years. Card collecting was not just a job, it was a passion that stemmed from Mr. Marshall being a standout athlete and overall sports fan. He was thrilled to have been witness to the Red Sox winning the 2018 World Series. In addition to the card shop, Mr. Marshall also worked as a postal worker for many years.

He was the father of Carl M. Marshall and his wife Karine of Burlington. He was the grandfather of Austin and Isabella Marshall. He was the brother of Bruce Marshall and his wife Rosalie of Long Island, NY and Robert Marshall and his wife Rosemary of Reading. He is also survived by his former wife Solveig (Libau) Marshall of Burlington and his sister-in-law Heidi Libau of Malden.

His Funeral Service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, November 13 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 12 from 3-7pm. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
