Susan Anne Grilk, age 68, of Amesbury, formerly of Wakefield, died July 7 at her residence.

Born in Melrose on August 21, 1950 she was the daughter of the late Louis T. and Mary Alice (McGowan) Grilk.

Susan was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Merrimack College. Upon graduation, she embarked on a long career in education, which began at the Tower School, continued at the Landmark School and concluded at Hamilton-Wenham High School. During this time, she also went back to school to receive her Master's Degree in Reading from Salem State University. Susan also engaged in athletics at the Tower School and Landmark School, acting as soccer coach and at one time, athletic director. She was a well-loved teacher and coach and students remember her very fondly.

Susan enjoyed running and was most proud of completing the Boston Marathon. She also loved to ski and to surf; always thoroughly enjoying her family spending summers in Seabrook Beach in New Hampshire. She very much enjoyed travel and chaperoned many trips abroad, as well as winning a trip to Singapore which she shared the experience with her sister. Susan was heavily involved in the Newburyport Senior Readers, which performs three times a year at the Firehouse Theater.

She was the cherished sister of Nancy E. Grilk and her husband Bob Pessek of Allston and Thomas S. Grilk and his wife Nancy Fredrick of Lynnfield. She was the loving aunt of Christopher Grilk of Lynnfield and David Grilk of Boston.
